In the spring of 1819, a younger fellow by the title of Henry Shaw from Sheffield, England landed in the little French village if St. Louis, Missouri. There he established up a company promoting hardware to the settlers that had been heading out from the "Gateway to the West." Company was good and he was able to retire by the age of forty.
